With Christmas and New Year’s Eve just around the corner, the team at Female First is definitely feeling festive! Party season is already in full swing with catch-ups with old friends, nights out with colleagues and festive family meet-ups all pencilled in the diary. And whilst we’ve been eyeing up party dresses left, right and centre - there’s one part of the party preparation process where we’re lagging behind: our hair. 

Picking out fun and festive hairstyles on the ‘gram is easy enough, but actually making them happen? That’s a different story. This season belongs to big, bouncy waves, Games of Thrones level lengths and an entire hair-spray can of volume which, for those of us with finer or shorter hair, is no mean feat to achieve. So it’s little wonder that more and more women are turning to clip in hair extensions to achieve their dream Insta-worthy looks. 

There are so many different kinds of clip in hair extensions out there, but we think we’ve finally found the best: Foxy Locks.

From pop-princess ponytails to gorgeous tumbling waves, these will work for everything from the office Christmas do to a glitzy New Year’s Eve bash. 

Step one:

Place your Foxy Locks clip-in pony tail next to your own hair to ensure colour match.

Step two:

Gather your own hair into a high ponytail towards the top-back of your head and secure with one of the elastic bands included.

Step three: 

To create the volume you’d see on Ari herself, tie the second provided hair elastic an inch or so above the first. This allows your natural hair to lift away from your head. 

Step four:

Place the clip-in piece over your own ponytail, digging the clips into the base and wrapping around the velcro fastening. 

Step five:

Grab the ponytail strip and wrap about the base of the pony tail to cover the elastic and clip connection.

Step six:

Once wrapped around, use the included grips to secure the hair in place - adding more around the base for added peace of mind.

For this look we recommend using the Elegant range in 18” 130g

Step one: 

Section your hair by tying up 2/3 of your hair, leaving 1/3 of your hair down. 

Step two:

Backcomb your hair before clipping in 1x 3 clip weft of hair in your chosen length across the line where the hair meets the scalp. 

Step three:

Take down your hair and resection about an inch higher than the previous section, attaching the second of your 3 clip wefts. 

Step four: 

Repeat the process for the two 4 clip wefts. The second and last 4 clip weft should sit comfortably under a sufficiently thick layer of your own hair for a natural look.

Step five:

Use a tail comb to side part your hair.

Step six:

Due to the volume needed on one side for this ‘do, add both of your 2 clip pieces in a place in mirrors the height and position of your parting on the other side. 

Step seven:

Resection your hair into three sections, creating a line between the extensions. Section hair into 1.5 inch pieces, and use straighteners or a 25mm tong to curl hair inwards. Leave ends straighter for a relaxed finish.

Step eight:

Use a tail comb to reform the parting and secure your chosen hair slide (the sparklier the better!)

For this look we recommend using the Luxurious (for ultimate glamour) range, 280g 

Step one: 

Section your hair by tying up 2/3 of your hair, leaving 1/3 of your hair down. 

Step two:

Backcomb your hair before clipping in 1x 3 clip weft of hair in your chosen length across the line where the hair meets the scalp. 

Step three:

Take down your hair and resection about an inch higher than the previous section, attaching the second of your 3 clip wefts. 

Step four: 

Repeat the process for the two 4 clip wefts. The second and last 4 clip weft should sit comfortably under a sufficiently thick layer of your own hair for a natural look.

Step five: 

Section the hair to the sides of your head, attaching one 2 clip weft along the temple line so extra volume. For added volume, there is the option to attach an addition 1 clip weft on either side. 

Step six:

Resection your hair into three sections, preferably creating a line between the extensions. Section hair into inch wide pieces, and use a wand to curl inwards, starting from high up the hair length. Repeat for each section. 

Step seven:

Comb out and secure with hairspray to finish.
